During the Joint Meeting on 25 April, the Student Council was informed about the upcoming resignation of Vice-Rector Magnificus/Vice-President of Education Rob Mudde. Rob has indicated that, due to health issues, it is no longer possible for him to fulfill this position as he envisions it. Since 1988, Rob has continuously dedicated himself to TU Delft in many different roles. After joining the Executive Board in 2018, he has been the regular discussion partner of the Student Council. 

The Student Council has always experienced these discussions as pleasant, open, and constructive. Sometimes these discussions were heated, but we never doubted Rob’s dedication and leadership. He saw the importance of informal moments and also often stayed to talk with us after meetings.

As a professor, Rob had a big heart for education, a subject he could talk about with great passion. He also had an eye for the broader development of students and showed genuine interest in the student community. For example during the OWee, in a student house or at a student association. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, student wellbeing has been a particularly important topic for him. The Student Council thanks Rob for his commitment to this issue. 

The Student Council sees Rob as a role model and will miss Rob in this position. The Student Council wishes Rob all the best in the future and wishes him a great time as a professor, back in front of the classroom again. Furthermore we are glad that Rob will be able to convey his enthusiasm for education to the incoming students one last time during the opening of the academic year.

Statement Studentenraad Terugtreden VRM/VPE Rob Mudde: ‘voorbeeldfiguur’ 

Tijdens de Gezamenlijke Vergadering op 25 april is de Studentenraad geïnformeerd over het voorgenomen terugtreden van Vice-Rector Magnificus/Vice-President of Education Rob Mudde. Rob heeft aangegeven dat het vanwege gezondheidsklachten voor hem niet meer mogelijk is om deze functie naar eigen wens te vervullen. Sinds 1988 heeft Rob zich in vele verschillende functies continu ingezet voor de TU Delft. Daarbij is hij na zijn aantreden tot het College van Bestuur in 2018, de vaste gesprekspartner van de Studentenraad. 

De studentenraad heeft deze gesprekken altijd als open, constructief en prettig ervaren. Er waren tijdens deze overleggen soms pittige discussies, maar nooit hebben wij getwijfeld aan de toewijding en het leiderschap van Rob. Hij zag het belang van informele momenten en ging ook vaak na de vergaderingen met ons in gesprek.

Rob heeft als professor een groot hart voor het onderwijs, waar hij met veel passie over kan vertellen. Ook had hij oog voor de bredere ontwikkeling van de student en toonde oprechte betrokkenheid bij de studentengemeenschap, bijvoorbeeld tijdens de OWee, in een studentenhuis of op een vereniging. Sinds de Covid-19 pandemie ging studentenwelzijn hem extra aan het hart. De Studentenraad bedankt Rob voor zijn inzet op dit thema. 

De Studentenraad ziet in Rob een voorbeeldfiguur en zal Rob missen in deze functie. De Studentenraad wenst Rob alle goeds in de toekomst en gunt hem nog een prettige periode als professor bij het krijtbord. We zijn blij dat Rob nog één keer zijn enthousiasme over het onderwijs kan overbrengen aan de aankomende studenten tijdens de opening van het academisch jaar.
